Why Entrepreneurship

New Year's Eve while ringing in the infamous year 2020, my one thought was I was killing it at my job and surely another promotion would be mine that year. I was wrong.

“I knew that if I failed I wouldn’t regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not trying.”

-Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO Amazon

Growing up the sensible advice that our parents give us is simple, go to college, get a good job and retire having had a great career. Let me backtrack for a second. (teleport sound) As kids we grew up asking 1BILLION questions, and most of them start with why. As adults, that number is drastically reduced, why?

Is it because once we enter the school system, we are taught to get good grades and taught how and what to think? Possibly. This is not a bad thing for most people, but there are some square pegs that simply do not fit into that round hole. After going the college route and getting that great career, the sense of fulfillment was still lacking coupled with the daily monotony led to the questioning of my path. Another question arose.

Why am I doing all of this work in order for the company owners to make the upside? How can I be that guy on top? Those questions led me to the career path of Commercial Real Estate. This path is currently in it's adolescent phases, but the journey is mine and the path is completely up to me.

Building businesses allow you to get creative with marketing, networking, and learning from the leaders in any space you strive to be on top of. That's great, but why doesn't everyone do it? Most of us reading this know the answer, and it's simplicity. This route is difficult and uncomfortable at times but the upside should be very rewarding. Work ethic coupled with ambition will get you far on the path you have chosen, and remember the quote many people have said; Failure only happens when you quit, if you never quit you never fail.
